Living Cipher Decision Cases

Architecture becomes consequential when implementation becomes commitment.

Selected, anonymized decisions from biological compute, infrastructure, trust, and silicon programs. The cases disclose the judgment, consequence, evidence state, and condition for reconsideration—not the implementation method.

The public sees the judgment. The client receives the architecture. Living Cipher retains the machinery.
ADC-001 · Silicon

The FPGA works. Has anything earned silicon?

Disposition: ADVANCE programmable-hardware evidence. HOLD custom-silicon commitment.

Use programmable hardware as an evidence environment, not as an automatic precursor to ASIC implementation. Keep stable platform functions distinct from changing experimental computation.

Consequences: preserve implementation flexibility and trust continuity while directing near-term capital toward uncertainty reduction rather than premature NRE.

Evidence status: Architecture defined. Programmable implementation and comparative evidence are in progress. No silicon-worthy function is claimed.

Re-open when: evidence supports sufficient architectural persistence, deployment viability, and economic justification.

ADC-003 · Infrastructure

The data center can host it. Who controls the compute?

Disposition: ADVANCE deployment integration. HOLD partner-specific compute control.

Expose a stable owner-defined host/runtime boundary while retaining internal compute authority. Infrastructure partners may operate the resource without becoming the architect of the resource.

Consequences: separate operational control from proprietary compute behavior; distinguish infrastructure authorization from compute admission; direct capital toward reusable platform capability rather than bespoke hosting dependencies.

Evidence status: Architecture and integration boundaries defined. Site-specific qualification remains environment-dependent.

Re-open when: partner-specific functionality creates enough value to justify the resulting dependency and ownership consequences.

ADC-006 · Bio-Compute

The model changes. What should the hardware remember?

Disposition: ADVANCE workload-diversity evidence. HOLD fixed-function specialization.

Treat model volatility as an architectural assumption. Preserve stable platform boundaries while testing materially different workloads for recurring implementation value.

Consequences: prevent temporary workloads from defining permanent structure; preserve source, platform-state, compute-authorization, and provenance requirements across changing models; fund evidence before specialization.

Evidence status: Architecture defined. Comparative workload and implementation evidence are in progress. No reusable silicon candidate is claimed.

Re-open when: evidence demonstrates persistence beyond the current model or workload.

ADC-007 · Trust

The device is trusted. Is the biological source?

Disposition: SEPARATE source trust from device trust.

Treat biological-source admission, platform/device trust, authorized computation, and provenance as distinct but bindable architectural concerns. Reserve an explicit source-admission boundary before consequential computation.

Consequences: preserve the architectural distinction between a trusted device and a trusted claim about the biological source it processes, while keeping Living Cipher witness construction, admission logic, protocols, and hardware implementation proprietary.

Evidence status: Architecture and research program defined. Experimental validation is in progress.

Re-open when: biological evidence, attack testing, integration requirements, and deployment constraints materially mature.

Architecture Mandates

The decision is public. The machinery is not.

Living Cipher undertakes selected owner-side architecture mandates where implementation, trust, deployment, silicon, and capital decisions materially intersect.
